15th Paul Pepworth is holding his Summer School Glaze Workshop in the Glazeroom so please, just for this day, if you are not attending the workshop would you please do any glazing you have before or after the 15th.
We have now opened this up to non members and places are filling fast so be in quick. If you are attending a workshop and are needing clay we would be grateful if you would purchase this the week before your workshop. These are a good opportunity for members to sell their work so bring it on down to the clubrooms. Please ensure you have labelled your work well and have filled in a registration form.
Jan 5th If you are helping on the day please park in the OPC carpark. If you have to park behind someone make sure you let them know. If you are just coming to have a “look see” please park outside the racecourse entrance gates on the grass. Jan 13th This is a busy busy day with Races, Rod’s summer school workshop and we Hamilton Tools selling their wares. If you are helping on the day please park in the OPC carpark. For all other members, if it is looking really busy and to avoid congestion, please park outside the racecourse entrance gates on the grass. As we are in the Orange Zone and as the club is mandated under the Vaccine Passport we think it’s time to throw away those masks albeit with provisos, which are:
This year we want to celebrate getting through a tough year and would like to have the Christmas party in our building. Please bring something to add to the table and something to drink. There will be non-alcoholic punch and cheese platters provided. This is probably a good time to talk about the Festival of Pots - the club's main fundraiser. The Festival committee believe that it is not able to run the festival in January as many members have expressed concern about what is happening with the coronavirus and how uncertain things may be in January. The management committee agreed with the festival committees recommendation to postpone the event. The decision was not made easily, however, to carry on and make the decision closer to the time would mean investing significantly more funds. We are hoping that early in the New Year we can look at holding a version of the Festival - perhaps if not at Anam Cara Gardens then at the race course.
So, keep making those pots so we can hold a fundraiser. The funds raised from this event go toward maintaining our equipment, purchasing new equipment and tools and also enables us to keep our subscription, class and kiln fees low. The kilns have had all elements replaced and we have bought a stack of silica carbide shelves making the kilns ready for 2022 and ready for many pots! The annual Public Raku has also been postponed. This is such a shame as the Raku has been a great community event for many years and we know many families look forward to it. It would be great if we could combine a Raku alongside the fundraiser next year. If you are interested in joining the team to help put a new version of the fundraiser together for 2022 please get in touch. Please add your name to the list on the board if you can help. Remember you are required to do one cleaning bee per year or pay the $45.
As advised last month there are no workshops planned for the rest of the year, however, if you have a particular skill in ceramics that you are willing to share with members please let Margaret Hunt know.
Two new artists are exhibiting (and selling their goodies) in the Tote Modern gallery, Kaye Stead and Kay Latham. Kaye, with an "e" is a Ceramicist and Kay, without an "e" is a Watercolour Artist.
They are having an official opening this Thursday, 21 October, at 5.30pm. All are welcome. |
